First Things First

Here we go again! New year, new plans, and new resolutions. Or maybe old resolutions. Either way, most of us are setting goals we’re expecting to accomplish this year.

How about we do things a little different? Instead of rushing to make all our plans for the year why don’t we spend some time with God first, and ask Him to show us where we should spend our time and efforts?

Every one of us has a purpose and a calling on our lives. In every season of our lives there are things that God has for us to do and pursue. How many of us can truly say we are currently making purpose moves in our lives?

This new year let’s take time to seek God’s face, ask for instructions, then go in the direction He has called us. What God has for some of us might be a drastic change like moving to a new city or starting a new job. For others it might be carving out a few hours a week to work on a new project or volunteer more. Some us know what God wants us to do but have been putting it off because we have our own ideas of what we think is best. We can’t afford to keep going wherever life takes us, or taking every opportunity that comes up just because it seems like a good idea.

We have to be intentional and strategic with how we live our lives. Let’s be strategic with how we set our goals so we can continue to work on them all year long. Let’s walk in purpose. So many people burn out or stop what they set out to succeed early on in the year. When we make our plans with God, He can give us the strength to sustain us as we work on what He has for us in this season. Let’s make sure to keep God at the center of our plans, not just when we make them but also as we execute them. God usually does not reveal the entire plan all at once. We should be diligent about keeping our ears and hearts open to the voice of God and be obedient in whatever direction He moves us all year long.

This year, let’s earnestly seek God, and go where He directs us.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV

5 Keys To Succeed In A Rigorous Field

This is a guest post by a friend of mine, Ope Adebanjo. Enjoy!

It seems that in life the most challenging professions or callings to accomplish have nothing to do with competence or intelligence, but have everything to do with resilience and grit. People throw those last two terms around a lot, and tell you that some people have these qualities and some people just don’t. I’m not sure I believe that. I have found that any skill can be built, and in many ways Continue reading “5 Keys To Succeed In A Rigorous Field”

Worship As A Weapon

We often refer to worship as singing slow songs that glorify God, but how we live our lives is also a form of worship. If you read 2 Chronicles 20 you can see how the tribe of Judah used worship as a weapon to defeat their enemies. Jehoshaphat (the king of Judah at the time) was scared when he heard a large army was planning to attack Judah, but despite his fear,

Stay Ready

Many of us want the reward that is offered to us in Christ Jesus but don’t want to live our lives in a way God has called us to live. We want the blessings God has to offer but not his discipline.

So how do we become a servant found doing the master’s will when the master returns?

The Power of The Margin

Story Time! Soo….Once upon a time (2 weeks ago) I was planning on traveling for a wedding and ordered my dress less than 2 weeks from when I was scheduled to leave. My dress was supposed to come in 2 days before I left but ended up coming in the day before. When I opened my package I saw a dress that might as well have been white and not the light pink I had seen on the website. I know not everyone cares about others wearing white at their wedding but I was not about to be that person! So I planned to go to the mall and buy a dress that evening. Which was a great plan, except Continue reading “The Power of The Margin”

Don’t Take The Good News For Granted

“21 At one time you were separated from God. You were his enemies in your minds, and the evil things you did were against God. 22 But now God has made you his friends again. He did this through Christ’s death in the body so that he might bring you into God’s presence as people who are holy, with no wrong, and with nothing of which God can judge you guilty. 23 This will happen if you continue strong and sure in your faith. You must not be moved away from the hope brought to you by the Good News that you heard. That same Good News has been told to everyone in the world, and I, Paul, help in preaching that Good News.” -Colossians 1:21-23 NCV

Can you imagine we were once called enemies of God? Continue reading “Don’t Take The Good News For Granted”

Learning To Trust God

Trust:

4 Dictionary definitions (DD)

  1. Firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.
  2. Allow someone to have, use, or look after (someone or something of importance or value) with confidence.
  3. Acceptance of the truth of a statement without evidence or investigation.
  4. Have faith or confidence.

At the end of January 2018, God really started dealing with me about learning to trust in him. Prior to that, there were many times I would confess with my mouth, cry out in prayer, and write about my desire to surrender and trust God with all my heart. Continue reading “Learning To Trust God”

The Purpose of Righteous Living

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:11-13

I like how Paul (the author of the book of Ephesians) says “therefore” when saying to put on the armor of God. He’s saying that because there is a battle going on, we NEED to put on the whole armor of God. He’s not saying to do it simply because it’s how God desires for us to live, but he is saying it is necessary based on the situation.

Many times,  Continue reading “The Purpose of Righteous Living”

My Experience As A Young Black Female In The Workplace

I’ve spent the past 6 months working at a small consulting company. Like really small. It’s an awesome place to work, especially compared to what I’ve heard about other companies.  I’m the youngest person, the only black female consultant, and the only one with my job title (small company)-all the other consultants are in more senior roles. My company is quite unique and inclusive. I definitely work with a great group of people! I really have no reason to feel left out or awkward but listen to the story I’m about to tell you.
